From development in recent days, it seems Google Android L final version launch and release is getting closer as we have few indicators suggesting Android L is coming in few weeks. Usually before launch of new version of Android OS, Manufacturers start sending OTA of earlier version update. Now a days same is the case with Android KitKat 4.4. Nearly all manufacturer either sending out Android KitKat or they completed their OTA update.
Android KitKat 4.4 emerges as second most dominant version of Android OS after jelly Bean. Currently nearly 24.5 % of all Android users are using Android KitKat as their OS. Which is nearly one quarter of total Android OS users. The most dominant version of Android is Jelly Bean and nearly 53 % of all Android users have this version as their OS. Reason behind its dominance is that Google released three versions of its Android Jelly Bean 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. This version is OS of nearly 2 quarter of all Android users in world.
Out of these above three mentioned versions Android 4.1 is prominent and is OS of nearly 25 percent of all Android users. High percentage of Android KitKat clearly indicates now it's time for next iteration of Android OS from Google. Though Google didn't revealed about the name of final version but as per latest leaks new OS will be released as Android 5.0 and will enclose up the 4X series of Android OS.
Another interesting thing regarding Android 5.0 is revealed by Phone Arena, According to their report Google next iteration won't be released as Lemon Meringue Pie or LMP instead next iteration name will be of another candy from Nestle. Report further suggests official name of Android 5.0 will be Android Lion. If report is accurate, we can expect Google and Nestle partnership will continue with Android 5.0 name.
As far as release of Android Lion is concerned, Nexus 6 is expected in October. So we can expect Google will be releasing Android L alongside Nexus 6.
