Android M will be the only major Android update in 2015, Android N will arrive in 2016

Google I/O 2015 will start tomorrow in less than 24 hours. Everyone eyes are passionate about the launching event of Android M, the next iteration of world’s most famous Operating system. As we all know this update is internally named as “Macadamia Nut Cookie”. It will be getting the throne from Android Lollipop and for one year it will remain on top spot.

It seems Google is now following Apple pattern of releasing major updates, which means a major update will reign for at least one year. Same is the case for Android M, successor to Android M will be Android and it is expected in next I/O event in 2016.

Today Hiroshi Lockheimer, Android VP of Engineering confirmed that indeed Google will be releasing Android M tomorrow, but as we all know that’s not a big news. He further confirmed that from now on Google will be releasing a major update on yearly basis which means successor version of Android M will be released in 2016.

I am sure that’s great news for those Android fans who don’t like minor incremental updates yearly but instead wanted to see a major update on yearly basis.

Are you excited to know that there will be a major Android update every year?
