Samsung Galaxy S7 Official: Hands-on Review

The Korean giant Samsung recently introduced their much-awaited flagships Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. This year Samsung introduced flagship is built from metal and glass, continuing the legacy of Galaxy S6.

The Galaxy S7 Edge is slightly larger and curved variant of flagship Galaxy S7. The flagship GS7 seems like “S” generation iPhone of Samsung which didn’t bring major changes in design but instead, bring cosmetic changes which elegance the foundation that was arranged by its predecessor Galaxy S6.

The device is a solid improvement overall, it offers a fast performing processor, a new camera, and a luring exterior. This year Samsung’s flagship will have to face a strong competition in the market because LG’s G5 is drastically revised by the company and Cupertino giant iPhone 6S is still young and powerful. Last but not the least HTC is also looking forward to announcing their flagship One M10 in March at the same time when Samsung will be releasing Galaxy S7.

Let’s have a detailed look on Galaxy S7, how strong is it against its competitors and how good is it to retain its strong presence in the market. Starting with the design.

As I mentioned above, the Galaxy S7 doesn’t bring much difference in design than its predecessor. However, that doesn’t mean S7 is not bringing any beneficial change in design. First most prominent change in the design of Galaxy S7 is its curved glass back like Note 5’s.

The GS7 weighs notably more than GS6 thanks to its larger battery. The device is introduced in three color variants including “Silver Titanium”, “Gold Platinum” and “Black Onyx”. All colors look nice and persuading.

The best thing about GS7 is that it brings water and resistance back and it is IP68 certified. With IP68 certification, the GS7 can survive beyond 1-meter water for as long as a user want and also in dust constricted.

This year Samsung didn’t pumped the resolution of its’ AMOLED displays but instead they introduced a new feature “always-on display” to enhance the user experience.
This new feature will keep the selected part of the display on such as time, appointments and important notifications. Mostly users have to push home or power button just to check the time but with new GS7 always on display, feature users won’t have to press any button just to check time. The good thing is it won’t be wasting much battery juice.

The GS7 display is of 5.1 inches diagonal with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.  It’s not important to mention that new display brings more pleasurable reading and viewing experience than its predecessor.

User Interface

Many Samsung fans always asking that Korean giant should optimize their TouchWiz UI and from Galaxy S6 it seems the company is also willing to improve things.

This year Samsung latest iteration of software is still keeping side-by-side app multitasking advanced users will be happy to know that.

Processor & Memory

Samsung has an advantage of producing their own chipsets, which allows Korean giant to use their best chipsets for their flagship GS7. The US customers will be getting the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 driven variants whereas some international markets will be getting the Exynos driven smartphones.

The new chipset is bringing 30% better CPU performance and also 60% faster GPU performance as compared to GS6. Both the Exynos and Snapdragon variants will deliver aforementioned boosted performance.

The good news doesn’t end here because Samsung provided a new App for games called Game Lounge, which will optimize the performance of games. The GS7 is the first smartphone which supports advanced Vulkan graphics API, which will allow developers to use the raw potential of smartphone hardware.

Galaxy S7 brings back the pre-S6 era because now users can expand their internal memory by using external microSD-card. Unfortunately, the GS7 is available in 32GB option only. So make sure you are using a really high-level SD card.

The GS7 camera is surely an area where Samsung works for larger steps forward.  Indeed, the camera is the most popular feature of latest flagships. The GS7 camera is 12MP as compared to GS6 16MP, don’t be shocked because to improve photo quality Samsung has delivered and increased the number of pixels in a photo.

The new camera has a wide aperture of F/1.7 and 1.4-micron pixels. The larger pixel provides 56% more light to camera sensor as compared to GS6 and wide aperture brings 25% more light. Both of these upgrades will enhance the photo quality even in low light.

One of the more important upgrades in the GS7 is a larger battery. The last year GS6 was packed with a 2550mAh battery but this year Samsung upgraded GS7 with a 17% increased 3000mAh. The Galaxy Note 5 is powered by a 3000mAh, it shows the sheer fact how Samsung managed to fit a giant battery in a compact body. The large battery will surely bring a longer battery life as well.

With the latest Galaxy S7, Samsung didn’t attempted to wow customers but instead they introduced an excellent high-end Smartphone. The device brings important changes in much-required categories including performance, the battery, and the design last but not the least the camera.

The Galaxy S7 enhances the Galaxy S6 experience to the next upper level and we are very much confident that the Galaxy S7 is powerful enough to withstand against all competitors throughout the year.

Both the HTC and Sony are not powerful enough to challenge the Samsung Galaxy flagship in this year but this year LG’s G5 emerges as a strong alternative of Galaxy S7. But still its modular tricks won’t be able to snatch a large chunk of Samsung share in flagship market.

Samsung has announced that Galaxy S7 will be released worldwide on March 11th, 2016. The price tag of the latest flagship is still unknown but we are not expecting any drastic changes as compared to last year.
