Last year, for the first time Google unveiled two Nexus smartphones. One was the mid-ranger Nexus 5X manufactured by LG, this device was the successor device of Nexus 5 which was also manufactured by LG. The second device was the Huawei manufactured Nexus 6p. This device was the high-end device, released as the successor variant of Nexus 6 manufactured by Motorola in 2015. Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6p are available in the market for almost six months and thanks to rumours, we are now looking forward to the announcement of 2016 Nexus lineup devices.
For this year, HTC joined hands with Google for the production of next-gen Nexus smartphones. Both the mid-ranger and the flagship variant are expected from HTC.
The HTC manufactured Nexus smartphones are internally known as Marlin and Sailfish. The Marlin is the high-end device whereas the Sailfish is expected to be the mid-ranger variant.
Today, the flagship Marlin Nexus smartphone spotted in Chromium issue tracker. Well, the listing not only confirms that flagship will be named as Marlin but also stated that Nexus Marlin will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 821 Soc and will be having latest Android N on board as the operating system. Not just that, last year Nexus smartphones codenamed ‘Angler’ and ‘Bullhead’ are also in this Chromium listing.
That is, unfortunately, what we know far. The Marlin Chromium listing didn’t confirm HTC is indeed the manufacturer of this device but it confirms this device will be the flagship Nexus of the year.
It is almost certain that Google will be producing more than one Nexus smartphone this year as well. So Nexus fans can expect a larger flagship a mid-ranger small display Nexus smartphone in 2016. We do have to wait few more weeks to confirm that two Nexus smartphones will be released in second half of the year.
